Dimmer Switch Installation Tampa Bay

Dimmers are kind of our thing. It's in the name. We install standard, LED-compatible and smart dimmers across Tampa, Clearwater and St. Pete, including 3-way setups where you control the same lights from two spots. And if your LED lights flicker, buzz or won't dim all the way down, we fix that too.

Common Questions

Straight answers about dimmers, LED flicker, and what to expect.

Why do my LED lights flicker or buzz on a dimmer?

Usually because the dimmer was made for old incandescent bulbs. Those dimmers expect a much bigger load than a few LED bulbs draw, so the light flickers, buzzes, or won't dim all the way down. The fix is an LED-rated dimmer matched to your fixtures, and making sure the bulbs themselves are marked dimmable. It is one of the most common calls we get and usually a quick swap.

Can I put a dimmer on any light?

Most light fixtures, yes, as long as the bulbs are dimmable. A few things should not go on a standard light dimmer: ceiling fan motors need a proper fan speed control, outlets should not be dimmed, and some fluorescent fixtures need a dimming ballast. We check what is on the circuit before installing anything.

Do smart dimmers need a neutral wire?

Many do. Older homes often don't have a neutral wire in the switch box, which is the main reason a smart dimmer installed by a homeowner won't power on. We check your wiring first, then either run a neutral or recommend a smart dimmer designed to work without one.

Is it normal for a dimmer switch to feel warm?

Slightly warm is normal, since dimmers shed a little heat while they work. Hot to the touch, buzzing loudly, a burning smell or a discolored cover plate is not. That usually means the dimmer is overloaded or failing. Turn it off and have it checked, because it is a fire risk.

How much does dimmer switch installation cost in Tampa Bay?

It depends on how many switches, whether they are single-pole or 3-way, standard or smart, and whether a neutral wire needs adding. Most dimmer jobs are quick and can be bundled into one visit with other small electrical work. We give you a flat rate quote before we start, never an hourly bill.
